In 2004, Alberta Star optioned the Longtom Uranium Property to Fronteer Development Group (FRG - TSX). Under the terms of the agreement, Fronteer had the right to earn a 75% interest by spending $500,000 CDN on exploration over 3 years. In 2006 Fronteer exercised it's option and now controls the property.
In September 1996 a Dighem VTEM, Magnetic, VLF-EM, and Radiometric survey was completed which showed several large and strong magnetic anomalies along a 10 kilometer NW-SE trend.
The purpose of the Airborne Magnetic survey was to detect zones of magnetic mineralization and to provide input for the interpretation, mapping and understanding of the structural components of the survey area. A helicopter supported gravity survey was completed over parts of the property in the search for large areas of Iron-Oxide, Copper, Gold (IOCG) type mineralization like that found at Olympic Dam and Ernest Henry, in Australia and at Candelaria in Chile. The Longtom property is located in the Great Bear Magmatic Zone (GBMZ) in Canada's Northwest Territories, which hosts 2 of the 3 IOCG type of deposits, located in Canada. A total of 242 gravity stations were observed on the 19,642 acres claim block. Two large 2.5-3.0 mGal anomalies were detected along a 7.5 Km trend. The gravity anomalies are coincident with the magnetic anomalies. IOCG type of deposits display coincident magnetic, gravity and induced polarization/resistivity anomalies.
